Hi Chris,
Thanks for the useful help.

Re: Optimat

Thanks Chris,

How does mlwin allocate memory, is this all done automatically with non-contiguous blocks, or does it like a contiguous block to work with?

I also see there is a 64bit mlscript.exe I assume this means it can use inexcess of 2gb of RAM at anyone time to fit a model.

Thanks A

Optimat

Hi, Im running some simple models on a big dataset (1,000,000 obs). There are some very big level 1 units largest is just over 5000. I get an overflow problem, so i specify the Optimat option. The models now fit, but i am wondering what happens to the units with greater than 800 observations? Are th...

Residual covariance estimate

Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to access the covariance between the random effect residuals after fitting a model. runmlwin height con age , level1(age: cons ) level2(id : cons age, residuals(resid , var) ) I was almost hoping it might be something like this runmlwin ..... .... , residuals(re...

mlwin on a cluster

Hi Guys, I am thinking of moving my work on to a cluster? I was wondering if you have had any experience of using runmlwin in a cluster environment? I think the greatest benefits occur when the process are written for paraellel processors. has mlwin be written this way or is it mainly a serial beast...

Re: Model Failure, exiting procedure

Hi Chris,

If you capture runmlwin it still stops working.

I agree. missing important error messages is a problem, but in a simulation as long as you know which ones failed you can knock them out at the end.

Many thanks for the quick response.

Re: Can you stop MLwiN from popping up?

Hi Chris,

Just tried ado uninstall, and reinstalling. Unfortunately with no success. My version of stata is centrally controlled so not sure if this might have anything to do with it?

Cheers
