Re: 3-level multinomial error:'illegal op: v_block:: mult_ad

At what point did you get the message 'Obey command is not available when batch excecution is PAUsed'? I would only expect this message to occur if you tried to run another macro while MLwiN was waiting for you to choose the "resume macro" or "abort macro" buttons. If you are doi...

Re: Problem in getting started

I'm not sure whether it's related, but there are a couple of errors in your input. In the first attempt you appear to have an extra quote at the beginning of the ISAV command. In the second version you appear to be defining school twice in the auxiliary variables (this may be due to selecting it as ...

Re: Error message: invalid variable names

I have just checked the Stata manual and it turns out that a few of the reserved variable names that MLwiN checks for are wrong (for example it should check for _pi instead of pi). This will be fixed in the next release of MLwiN.

Re: Error message: invalid variable names

When MLwiN saves a Stata file it checks each variable that it is saving to make sure it's name is alphanumeric and doesn't start with a digit. It also checks that it isn't one of the following reserved variable names: _all, _long, _N, in, _skip, _weight, _pred, _cons, float, _b, _n, pi, int, using, ...

Re: 3-level multinomial error:'illegal op: v_block:: mult_ad

It appears that the cause of the error is that MLwiN is running out of memory. As a 32-bit program MLwiN can use a maximum of 2Gb on a 32bit machine or 4Gb on a 64bit machine. This amount is shared by the MLwiN code and data structures which are not necessarily stored contiguously, further reducing ...

Re: Problem in getting started

The error "Invalid file" is given if MLwiN is unable to create the a file with your chosen name in the location that you specified. It may be that you don't have write privileges to your chosen directory, alternatively there may be something wrong with the command being generated to save t...

Re: wrong hierachy

The problem appears to be that there are three schools where all the observations contain some missing data. As these schools will be excluded from the model they are not counted in the hierarchy viewer.

Re: wrong hierachy

Would it be possible to email me with a copy of your worksheet (or at least the ID variables) so we can look into this further?
