Re: Extracting Markov chains of parameters?
The parameter chains are stored by default in c1090 as a sequence of successive sets, one for each iteration. Within each set the parameters are stored with the fixed parameters first, followed by the random parameters. The order of these should match that in the equations window. You can extract a ...

Re: mlwin on a cluster
I believe that some people do use MLwiN in this way, but I have no direct experience in doing this. MLwiN does not use multiple processors, so the best way of taking advantage of this environment would be to run several copies of MLwiN in parallel.

Re: file errors
The "cannot allocate smatrix" message will appear if there is not enough worksheet space to store a matrix. You may be able to get around this by increasing the worksheet size, however if the data is corrupted this may not work as it may be trying to allocating an impossibly big matrix. Th...

Re: Model Failure, exiting procedure
You can check whether (R)IGLS models have converged by looking in e(converged), although if the macro doesn't finish running this might not be filled in. There is already an MLwiN macro command to ignore errors in macros (ERRO 0) which is sometimes used in simulations. We shall investigate whether t...

Re: Can you stop MLwiN from popping up?
I just had Stata update to 11.2 here too, although I still get the same popping under behaviour as before if another application has focus (even another instance of Stata).

Re: MCMC estimation
This is currently implemented as a sub option of the MCMC option i.e. mcmc(paex(2 3)) to specify parameter expansion at levels 2 and 3. As the MCMC functionality is still being developed the exact syntax may still be subject to change in the future.

Re: Can you stop MLwiN from popping up?
That's an interesting find. Out of curiosity, if you are using a Stata do file editor associated with a different instance of Stata do you get interrupted there too?

Re: Questions with Realcom Impute
1) If you watch the text screen that runs alongside Realcom-Impute you will see that messages appear regarding the current state of the model run. This should include the current iteration, and the estimates when the model has finished running. 2) The estimates do not turn green when the imputation ...

Can you use runmlwin with the 30-day MLwiN trial version?
Unfortunately the current trial version of MLwiN is based on version 2.16, while runmlwin makes use of functionality added in version 2.22. I will look into updating the trial version to a compatible version in the near future. Having said that, if I am reading what you typed correctly I think that ...

Re: Using MLwiN non interactively
Yes this is possible. You will need to create a file containing a series of MLwiN commands and then pass this an an argument to mlwin /run. In order to create the necessary file you will be need to become familiar with the MLwiN command language. Most of the documentation for the commands can be fou...
