- Abstract
Study on the relationship of housing vacancy and urban form in the Valley of Mexico Metro Area with multilevel modeling. In the first ten years of the 21st century a new housing policy was implemented in Mexico, a massive development of new social housing in must mexican cities, about 2006 there was already eveidence of very high vacancy rates is some cities. In this paper we focused our attention in the Valley of Mexico Metro Area. We use multilevel modeling to assess the relationship between vacancy rates and urban form variables. We find two competing patterns on vacancy, on one hand there are high vacancy in peri-urban social housing developments and in the other hand there also high rates in the very core of the metro area. We find the expected negative sign for job accesibility, land use mix, distance from modal transfer facilities, and the expected positive sign for housing growth rate (2000-2010) and average construction value at the municipality level.
