level 2 variable as the outcome

Post by dfonly67 »

Hi, is it possible to have a variable at level 2 as the outcome using MLwiN?
Which chapter should I read in the manual? Thank you.

MLwiN does not formally allow this, however you can fit this type of model by adding a small amount of noise to the response variable (see section 6.7.1 of Goldstein, Harvey. Multilevel statistical models. John Wiley & Sons, 2011). Alternatively if you have a two-level model you can fit this type of model using Realcom (http://www.bris.ac.uk/cmm/software/realcom/). Our new statistical software Stat-JR (http://www.bris.ac.uk/cmm/software/statjr/) will also include functionality for fitting N-level models of this type in the future.
