Loading data from SPSS file into MLWin 3.0

Post by Edvanklink »

How can I load data from an SPSS dataset in MLWin 3.0? I can find directions for MLWin 2.0 and 2.1, but not for 3.0. Following the instructions for either version does not help.

The modules required for loading/saving SPSS aren't included with the MLwiN 3.0 beta, although we are investigating whether we can do this for the final release. In the mean time you can either convert the file using MLwiN 2.36 first, or add the modules yourself. Do do this you need do the following:
  • click the link next to "The modules for Statistics Version 21 and later are available here." on https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/comm ... Statistics (may require a free registration on the IBM site).
  • choose the option "Tools for SPSS Statistics Products, Version 24.0.0" and click continue
  • choose the option "Download using http"
  • click the download link next to "Material for use in building applications that read or write IBM SPSS SAV files without requiring an SPSS installation. It includes all supported platforms. Version = 24.0"
  • once the download is completed extract the contents of the win64 subdirectory into the MLwiN application directory (this will probably be C:\Program Files (x86)\MLwiN v2.36\x64)
