MLwiN error - response variable must be categorical

Post by mujaheedshaikh »

Hi,
I am trying to run a multilevel ordered probit model in MLwiN v2.28, but everytime I choose the multinomial option it tells me that response variable must be categorical. My response variable is subjective well-being and it is ordered from 0 to 10. I don't understand this at all. Am I missing a step here or what? Please help. Thank you.

To tell MLwiN that a variable is categorical you need to open the names window (Data Manipulation->Names Window), highlight the column in question and click "Toggle Categorical". The "categorical" column in the Names window should then change from False to True and you should then be able to use the variable as a response for multinomial models.

Thank you very much. I feel so stupid now. I just ignored that little tab there. Thank you again.
